Linux Lite Firewall?

Ok I didn't know Ubunutu systems came with a firewall.  Primarily because they are supposed to be disabled by default.  I installed Linux Lite 64bit, tried SSH, no avail.  NMAP'd the ports, no response.  The firewall was enabled by default: shut it down (sudo ufw disable) good to go.
