Ubuntu | Totem Media Player

I recently started noting some issues with the Totem media player, my videos started to play in slow motion. I would reboot and it would clear up for an unspecified amount of time and then happed again (with no substantial system changes). I did some research and found that there was a resolution to the slow video. They changed the sound codec properties from autodetect to ALSA. (System-> Preferences -> Sound) This cleared the slow video but raised new issues with mpegs, only picking up part of the sound channel. But MP4, AVI, OGG, and all audio formats seemed to work.
